As a leader and an advocate for the international blindness community, Vision Australia wants to create an intranet that meets AAA conformance and is accessible to all employees. The solution has to integrate with SharePoint, offers single sign-on for multiple applications and works seamlessly across devices such as computer, tablet and mobile.
Vision Australia is a not-for-profit organisation and a major partner in the international blindness community.
They wanted to overhaul their existing intranet system and build one from the ground up that was engaging, effective and accessible for both vision-impaired and non-vision impaired users.
The goal is to produce a solution that acts as both a social platform for collaboration and information sharing, as well as an effective information and document repository.
01 • Stakeholder workshop to define key stakeholders, audience, customer value proposition, challenges and goals
02 • User research to uncover and validate problems. Understand existing communication mediums, usage and frequency patterns.
03 • Concept mapping and task analysis on regularly performed activities. Information architecture workshop to review choke points, redundancy, taxonomy, ease of use and successful/failed task completion
04 • Sketching, concept walkthrough with stakeholders. Cross-functional teams session to conduct feature prioritisation using MoSCoW technique
05 • Usability testing on wireframes with stakeholders and employees. Iterate on findings and begin design phase.
06 • Ongoing evaluation of user activities and success criteria in order to understand how the new solution perform amongst users. The feedback reports also enable us to validate, identify and plan for the next stage of improvements
• A responsive and uniquely accessible platform that enables all employees to have equal access to information and functionality
• Efficiency and ease-of-use: Single sign-on across multiple platforms, sharing information between teams is now as simple as akin to posting on social media
• Improved collaborative culture - User tagging, video and photo sharing, groups for both professional and social purposes
• Deliver higher value customer service - Ability to leverage information from across departments and being able to tap into the entire company’s knowledge pool in real-time
• Define and execute product strategy, both short and long term objectives. Act as the user advocate in cross functional design discussions
• Identify business opportunities to grow in the context of competitive factors, market demand and industry trends/developments
• Build consensus among cross-functional teams and influence decision making with stakeholders
• Guide and participate in project planning and execution such as user research, prototype delivery and usability testing
• Overview of tactical efforts, execute key activities, define leading indicators and align outcomes with business objectives
