“Commencing Students” platform is a new self-service portal for students to conduct activities such as timetabling, enrollment and other student services. The goal is to better support new and exisiting students with accessibility to online services and information that are tailored and timely.
Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is a tertiary admissions centre in Australia and New Zealand that manages the course application process for tertiary studies.
With recent VTAC changes, university offer letters will no longer detail course/faculty specific enrolment information.
As such, Monash wants to create a personalised, friendly platform that provides potential and new students with supportive, relevant and timely information.
The portal will also provide better online student services for existing students to manage their curriculum and responsibilities.
The objective is to increase students’ self-service, improve student experience (engagement/sense of community), reduce student attrition rate and nurture better academic outcomes.
01 • Stakeholder workshop to define key stakeholders, audience, customer value proposition, challenges and goals
02 • Conduct research with target audience and develop personas to identify needs
03 • Concept mapping and task analysis on key activities. Define student journey maps, user flows and hierarchy of information needs.
04 • Sketching, concept walkthrough with stakeholders.
05 • Usability testing on wireframes with users. Iterate on findings and feed further evaluations into design phase.
06 • Evaluate against success metrics and improve platform experience for next student intake
• Increased orientation attendance and participation in activities and events.
• Reduced Monash Connect inquiries as a result of accessibility of information and self-service that weren’t available prior.
• Students are more prepared and effective in navigating their responsibilities, especially in the first semester.
• Subsequent next steps will include ongoing measurements against success metrics and evaluation of user activities to further improve the platform.
• Define and execute product strategy, both short and long term objectives. Act as the user advocate in cross functional design discussions
• Identify business opportunities to grow in the context of competitive factors, market demand and industry trends/developments
• Build consensus among cross-functional teams and influence decision making with stakeholders
• Guide and participate in project planning and execution such as user research, prototype delivery and usability testing
